About

I am a highly detail-oriented person who loves to make a perfect final product. I am particularly skilled at learning new systems swiftly, style guide compliance, and teamwork. My favorite activity is taking an author’s vision and helping them actualize it.

My Journey to Being an Editor/Writer

Before Kindergarten

My love of books started before I can remember. My mom tells stories about how I would torture friends and make them sit and listen to me read. My favorite childhood book was “Green Eggs and Ham” and I would read it and enjoy the rhythms over and over again.

1997-2011

During my grade school years I set about devouring every book our little library had, and I never turned down a free book. (I have way too many books. 1500 lbs of books to be exact.) By middle school my reading and writing levels had reached college level and I carried a different book in each jacket pocket.

2011-2015

In college it was hard to decide on a major. But I knew that I wanted to do something I was passionate about. I have never loved anything as much as reading and writing, so I ultimately decided to be an editor.

I would get to flex my perfectionism and actually fix the mistakes I found in books and I would get paid to read! I got a Bachelors of Arts in Creative Writing and Psychology and took an internship with my university press to get some experience and see what it was like. I loved it!

2015-2018

My first position after college was a result of not wanting to be a starving artist, a desire for altruism, and already having work experience with the National Park Service. I worked for Canyon De Chelly for 3 years. At the time I worked on condition assessments for facilities maintenance, writing proposals for project funding, and lots of detail-oriented data entry. I’m proud to have aided in several accessibility projects for three National Parks. I still wanted to move towards being an editor in the end, as that was my real passion.

2018-2022

I began properly editing when I got a position with the Bureau of Reclamation as a Secretary. I was happy to find out that at least 70% of my job required me to review and edit reports, ensuring they met our style guide, visual identity, and Section 508 standards. I also got to live in Phoenix, AZ and be closer to many of my family members. While I started as a Secretary for the Environmental Division, my skills were quickly recognized and within six months I became the Lead Secretary, responsible for the Area Manager’s correspondence and for reviewing everything that left the Phoenix Area Office.

2022-Present

I moved to Denver, CO in order to become a Technical Writer-Editor with the Bureau of Reclamation. With my love of reading, anything with ‘Editor’ in the title was my dream job. As I have advanced in my craft and learned from this position, I desire to branch out into the private industry. I’m particularly interested in environmental or creative writing and editing, but overall, I love helping to transform a document into what the author wants it to be.

I have since moved back to Phoenix, AZ to be closer to aging family. Some things are even more important than books and I was forced to leave my position with the Bureau of Reclamation. But I continue to love reading, writing, and editing as I evolve on my journey.
